The name Paulaner stands for a Munich brewing tradition crafted over centuries, and acclaimed far beyond the borders of Bavaria throughout the entire world. Doing business in a sustainable manner combined with courage and innovation, that is “the heaven of the Bavarians,” a Paulaner tradition since 1634. February 24th, 1634 is a special date for the Paulaner brewery. On this date, the Munich commercial brewers filed a complaint with the mayor in order to ban the Paulaner monks of the Neudeck monastery in the Au district from selling their home-brewed beer. They were unsuccessful. This first official reference is to this day still considered the founding date of the Paulaner brewery and has been a vital part of Munich’s culture, tradition and history ever since. The special enjoyment of beer, our highly skilled brewmaster and the famous Bavarian way of life, are just a few factors contributing to Paulaner’s success – locally and internationally. More than 2 million hectolitres leave the historic brewery every year. The beer is exported from Munich’s Nockherberg to over 70 countries around the world. Paulaner’s unfiltered Weißbier is Germany’s market leader and a worldwide benchmark for authentic Weissbier enjoyment. Paulaner remains connected to its origins. The Oktoberfest in Munich and the annual Salvator tasting with the “Politiker Derblecken“ (roasting) of the local politicians are just two examples of how Paulaner keeps its ties to Munich traditions.
